Fade To White
The Special Edition heads were approved for 1982 but with one proviso: they must run with greater weight. There was also the addition of several potent RX7s including Allan Moffat's little rotary and the turbo Nissan Skylines. During the season, Alan Grice returned to the Holden fold with Alan Browne's Re-Car team after a stint in the JPS BMW.

If Brock didn't have enough on his plate trying to beat Johnson and Moffat, the prospect of a serious challenge to his Holden supremacy in the form of Grice was quite evident. By Bathurst, Grice looked the man to beat when he set the first 100 mph lap around the Mountain. In the race Grice sparred with Brock until a spin gave the MHDT the lead and ultimately the race victory. Larry Perkins, a reputable engineer and driver with F1 experience, was Brock's co-driver and became firmly entrenched in the team.
