Junior Sports | Pre War British Sports Cars

In the days of American influence post the Gread Depression, it was rather astonishing to find that the old Tin Lizzie of 1920 formed the basis of a British sports car, named the Junior Sports. Even the famous two-speed planetary gear was retained, and front axle, brakes and bonnet were all of Ford origin. Suspension, however, was by quarter-elliptic springs, the front springs being splayed outwards at a rather acute angle. A Hele-Shaw multi-plate clutch was employed.

The power came from a four-cylinder side-valve Peters engine of 1207-c.c. (62 x 100-mm.), and the car was marketed by a firm entitled the Aluminium & General Foundry Co., Ltd. Some cars were produced, but there is little to no information regarding their prowess, as the name Junior Sports does not appear anywhere in contemporary competition reports.
