Although the HZ Series was released in October 1977, the HZ Statesman was not released until November of that year. The new model Statesman came with
Radial Tuned Suspension and four wheel disc brakes. The styling was not greatly changed, although the Caprice grille was more intricate. In July 1979
GMH released the Statesman SL/E, which could be distinguished by an egg crate grille and new cast
alloy wheels, although this was really only meant to keep interest in the model while the finishing touches were applied to the extensively reworked WB. As
General Motors flagship vehicle, the Statesman was never referred to as a Holden.
