Introduction
By the time the 380SLC was introduced to the market,
some 54,000 R107 body shaped coupes had been produced
since the introduction of the 350SLC in 1972.
Although 85,000 SL's had been produced by the same time,
no one could question the popularity of the SLC model!
The most obvious external addition over the previous model
was the addition of a front spoiler, while mechanically
the
auto transmission was upgraded to a four-speed torque
converter type.
The 3.8 litre V8 engine was almost identical to the ones
used in the SEL sedans, today proving a great benefit
to the collector or restorer in that parts are in the
most part interchangeable and very affordable.
