Renault added another front wheel drive,
family model to its range in 1969, the 12.
The Renault 12 featured very modern styling (for 1969!)
which had clean, straight-cut lines featuring a classic
"3 box" layout of four doors and a boot - however it
was never as good as the Renault 16.
Although most Renault 12's had the standard 1289cc
four cylinder the more sporty "12 TS" used a 60bhp unit followed
by a 110bhp Gordini version.
The US market was offered
a special version which was produced and sold as the "12
America", powered by a 63bhp 1647cc engine.
Production of the Renault 12 series lasted until 1980. |
I currently have a 1972 Renault 12 TL which is in excellent condition. The car is in regular use but will be spending the worst of the English winter in my garage. My next work on the car will involve sorting out some paintwork issues and fitting an early seventies radio.
