Horrible experience. I always walk in happy and smiley. But this was one of the places where i feel that i, as a customer, had to smile extra hard to even make myself feel welcome! On top of that, please read below how to avoid getting ripped off by them:
This happened in January 2019.
This business did it in the dishonest way of NOT informing me that one can pay the Excess Reduction down to zero (for only about $10 extra/day what i found out later with other businesses).
Instead they let me pay the main part of excess ($26/day on top of the car rental price) but not down to zero - and then blamed me for some tiny fingerprint size "dents" on top of the bonnet - which could have well been there before me - they were hard to see and i was never shown the vehicle in that detail.
I know for the fact that the car did not touch anything and i haven't made the dents - i have no reason to believe that the dents were not there before me because the vehicle was shown very quickly with no detail or explanation to watch for such tiny things.
The next time i flew to Cairns i got my car from the Airport (the desks at the arrivals) and if you think that they are more expensive like my partner first did - they were NOT and they were way better value!
As the total opposite of Sugarland they were very friendly, and actually explained to me (without me even having to ask) that you can pay the excess down to zero for only about an extra $10/day!
Sugarland experience was a rip-off, and made me feel bad even though i didn't do anything - nothing except having been their customer!
Never again - and even if i was to rent again in town (as opposed to the airport) - ALL of the Cairns car rentals do airport pickups and dropoffs, NOT only sugarland!
Please make sure that - if you ever use this business - you pay the excess reduction down to ZERO or they may blame you for anything that comes to their mind and charge your credit card later!
WARNING - PAY EXCESS TO ZERO - OR DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BUSINESS !!
Also note that with the excess reduction your original car rental price that they advertise - about doubles.
