- Identifying your EL GT:
- Finding the ID Numbers and Plates:
- The engine number is stamped on the front of the block above the fuel pump
- Body Prefix Number is stamped on the passenger spring tower parallel with the fender
- I.D. Plate: Two plates located on the passenger side bulk head
- Tickford I.D. Plate is located on the passenger side spring tower head
- Vehicle I.D. Number is located on the front passenger side door trim
- Decoding the Body Prefix Number:
- As with the earlier GT’s the EB/EL had the same number for the Vehicle Identification Number, Engine Number and Body Prefix Number.
- The difference was it was now a standardised 17 character number used for all vehicles not just Fords.
- Body prefix numbers of Australian produced cars:
- 6FPAAAJGSWAB12345
- 6FP – identifies the manufacturer (Ford Australia)
- AAA – these characters are not used
- J – identifies the country of production (Australia)
- G – identifies the assembly plant (Broadmeadows)
- SW – identifies the Body Style – SW short wheel base LW long
- A – identifies the year of production (See chart below for year and month codes)
- B – identifies the month of production (See chart below for year and month codes)
- 12345 – is a unique number identifying each vehicle
