"True Blue" is a retrotech cruiser that retains the presentation cues of the legendary LX Torana SLR5000.

I purchased "True Blue" over 12 years ago from a mate and it was in great shape then but still had that raw canvas look about it, so I have upgraded it systematically each year to give the car a continuing new look on the show circuit. Of recent times it was in the paint shop for a refresh and revise in readiness for Summernats 2014, which included stitching a Ford GT bonnet into the Torana one. Since acquiring the Torrie, the engine bay, interior, running gear, suspension and brakes have all come in for a makeover. Sporting a 308 stroked to 355 Holden V8, the engine features electronic fuel injection and supercharging to deliver respectable but not manic horsepower although with over 900nm of nice fat'n'lazy torque. This raft of torque is pressed into service to the TrueTrac diff via a modified TH700 (hydraulic) 4speed auto with manual lock-up. So many mods to the car have incurred a little extra avordupois so to halt the strong and seamless forward urge, much larger brakes (330mm F & 280mm R) have been employed and they work a treat. Helping the brakes do their job is a carefully worked out suspension set-up crafted by Race Car Technologies at Batemans Bay (NSW South Coast). Highlights include custom metal to metal roll control & rose jointed QA1 dampers. Wheels are timeless ROH design 17" "Chicane", 7"F & 8"R, shod with Yokohama 45 series C-Drives: 215F & 235R. The custom interior by Nu-Trim, also of Batemans Bay, utilizes bits of Commodore, Mazda and Ford with Recaros starring as front row pews, instruments are the ubiquitous Auto Meter and the rear seats include a drinks 'frig. Pockets and bins have been grafted in everywhere to compensate for the loss of centre console that the UC handbrake determines. A consistent trophy winner, "True Blue" is my little bit of automotive art that retains its positive Torana SLR design cues whilst rewarding show goers with an eye catching display.
