Beautiful, timeless. The
Bertone design of the Alfa GTV remains arguably the best ever. Somehow both masculine and feminine, depending on which angle you looked from, the car captured the essence of "sports" better than cars two to three times the cost. That these expensive exotics are today only worth a fraction of what a top condition GTV will fetch says it all really.
Many now reflect on the time of the Guila GTV as the "Golden Era", and few would argue when you consider the cars were penned by
Bertone designer Giorgietto Giugiaro, widely considered to be "The Designer Of The 20th Century".
But despite the beauty of design (both inside and out), the best feature of the GTV's remains the driveline. The sweet-spinning twin cam
engine mated to a slick 5 speed gearbox won the hearts of anyone lucky enough to experience it.
Manufactured from light-weight aluminium, the
engine was mounted such that the chassis balance was as optimal as possible for a front engined car. Power, grace and style - all the things that make the GTV such a wonderful car then as now, and it remains one of the most highly prized and collectable Alfa's.
