Throughout this site we use many technical terms, and given the breadth of readership our site enjoys, sometimes we are remiss and incorrectly assume everyone knows what we are referring to. For those that do not, here are some explanations of the technical terms use. |
Diaphragm Pump
Pump in which the pumping chamber, with small inlet and outlet valves and passages, has one wall formed by a diaphragm which distends in alternate directions to increase and decrease the capacity of the chamber and so produce a pumping effect; this automatically ceases temporarily when pressure on the outlet side causes a greater force on the diaphragm than that exerted by its return spring. Pumping recommences when out-flow again lowers the chamber pressures. Examples are SU electrical petrol pump and the AC mechanical petrol pump. |
