Distributor
Shaft-driven mechanical device that controls a low-tension ignition circuit by making and breaking contact. Mechanical device which directs some commodity in the correct order to recipient items - for example, high-tension current to the spark-plugs. The ignition distributor employs a rotor, connected to the HT terminal of the coil and turned at half the speed of the engine, which passes close to a metal segment connected to each spark-plug in turn. In this context the term distributor is usually taken to mean the whole assembly, including the low-tension contact breaker and the advance-and-retard mechanism. |
