Pictured in this out-of-focus photo is an American Underslung, so named because the frame or chassis was slung below the axles. The car is seen on the road to Cronulla (NSW) in 1914, and although the road looks smooth here, history records that this road was deeply rutted in those days, so we assume the underslung design did encounter more than a few problems. The lady may or may not have been the driver, but the car in question was owned by Brigadier Playfair (of Smallgoods fame).
