Automobile-production figures did not improve in 1975, falling by another 24.5 percent to a mere 6.4 million vehicles. The slump in production caused massive layoffs among autoworkers, and the unemployment rate in the auto industry reached 15.8 percent. The 1975 Ford Granada remains an example of a well proportioned body with pleasing lines, until seen from behind. The shape of the body has determined that the designer was left with very little area at the back in which to fit the lights and reflectors demanded by the law, the number plate and the manufacturer's labels. |

The American Motors Pacer was one of the first attempts by the US car industry at a compact car. It featured a large glass area for good visibility in traffic and parking. The dumpy styling, however, proved unpopular, and the enormous doors made it difficult to park clost to other cars. |

The AMC Pacer, introduced in 1975, was an innovative gamble and another well-intentioned entry into the market AMC seemed to know best. The development of the Pacer prior to its 1975 introduction coincided with two developments in U.S. Federal passenger auto laws. The first, the reduction in allowed passenger auto engine emissions would have been met by the use of the Wankel type engine whose exterior compactness allowed for extensive engine bay emission control equipment. The second, increases in U.S. passenger auto safety laws was met by the designed-in safety features such as internal door beams and other features related to then newly mandated auto safety features. However, the inclusion of many Federal mandated safety features, the wide exterior and extensive window glass caused the Pacer to be very heavy for it's exterior length. |

For 1975, the Caprice Classic and Estate Wagon received revised grille and tailight trim along with six-window styling on four-door models with the third window on the four-door hardtop essentially an opera window. The dashboard, radio and climate control graphics were revised; the speedometer read up to 100 mph (160 km/h), and had smaller numbers for kilometers per hour. The Caprice convertible would be discontinued after the 1975 model year along with its full-size B-body ragtop counterparts including the Oldsmobile Delta 88, Buick LeSabre and Pontiac Grand Ville. Just about 8,350 Caprice Classic rag tops found buyers in 1975, and both surviving Caprice Classic (1973 to 75) and Impala (1971, 1972) ragtops have demonstrated quite an appreciation in value. This depends on the car's overall condition with a low mileage, unmolested original, always being highly coveted by collectors and fans. |

In 1975 the Camaro continued with a good-looking design with a low profile, wide stance and sloping rear deck. The '75 Camaro received a new wraparound rear window to reduce a blind spot that had troubled many drivers. A new RS option with multi-color paint schemes and bold stripes returned in mid-1975. Among the sad news for 1975 was the elmination of the Z-28. The Camaro was really suffering in performance and had only limited engine options with low performance. Despite the decline in horsepower, Camaro's sold well this year and production was up. |
