Hagerty is delighted to confirm the return of our popular annual Festival of the Unexceptional, due to be held on Saturday, 22 July.
This year, the site for this unique and lighthearted event is moving just a few miles down the road from its previous venue, relocating to the stunning surroundings of Stowe House, Buckingham, MK18 5HZ, next to the Silverstone motor circuit.
Stowe House has been chosen as a marked contrast to the vehicles that will be participating in this year’s Festival, with the splendor of Capability Brown’s gardens at this former home of the Duke of Buckingham. This spectacular backdrop will perfectly set off the annual concours, which celebrates the much maligned and long forgotten ‘ordinary’ classic cars and commercial vehicles of the late ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
Once again, our annual Concours de l’Ordinaire will be free to attend. It is open to classic cars and commercial vehicles from across the globe that were built between 1966 and 1989. Prior winners of the much-prized ‘Unexceptional’ award have included an immaculate and rare Nissan Cherry Europe, a Morris Marina pick-up truck, and a crowd-pleasing Hillman Avenger Super Estate.
Any owner of a suitably ordinary yet interesting ‘Unexceptional’ 1966-1989 vehicle can register for consideration and potential participation.
The 2017 event will also see the return of Hagerty’s Feast of the Unexceptional, the period picnic equivalent of the mundane automotive display. All participants are encouraged to bring out the Battenberg cake, Curly Wurly bars, cheese and pineapple on sticks and, of course, the obligatory bottle of Babycham!
Prizes will be awarded to the best and second best ‘Unexceptional’ cars according to the judges’ final decisions. Also making a return will be the ever popular People’s Choice and Feast of the Unexceptional awards, and the Best Dressed prize.
