The Swedish Grand Prix

The 1976 Grand Prix was one of the few races where the Tyrrell P34 six-wheelers really came into their own. The track definitely suited the cars; Scheckter won, gaining his second GP win at Anderstorp, with Depailler second as in 1974. Jacques Laffite, in the Ligier-Matra scored a very popular win in 1977 to gain his and the team's first Grand Prix victory, incidentally making it the first all-French world championship GP win. There was a measure of luck in Laffite's achievement in that Andretti, who had led from pole position for seventy of the 72 laps, was forced to refuel two miles from home; his Lotus 78 had been running on full-rich mixture due to a fault in the fuel injection.
