On this day in 1994 electrician Gary Smith attended the home of Kurt Cobain to install a burglar alarm. Smith would find Cobain laying on his back with a shotgun wound to the head, and and autopsy would detect traces of both heroin and valium in his blood. The body had to be identified from fingerprints as the gun shot wound had left him unrecognizable, and it was determined that he had likely killed himself on April 5. Cobain never tried to make excuses for his drug taking, but would explain that a major part was the intense stomach pain he suffered. In fact, he had tried to commit suicide in Italy four weeks earlier, this leaving him in a temporary coma. Cobain was 27.

The suit alleged breach of contract, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress concerning a toxic mold that had spread through McMahon's Beverly Hills home.
