Hunter Valley Torana Club ToranaFest 2007

The 2007 Toranafest, held by the Hunter Valley Torana Club on the Newcastle Foreshore on Sunday, the 16th September 2007 was a great success. The following post-event review was submitted by Pete Morris, Treasurer of the club...

Last year we had 88 cars so with all the hard work our club has put in we anticipated around 120 entrants.

On the Friday before Toranafest we had 102 cars already pre-entered and were confident of 130 cars, but we certainly did not expect the 155 cars that eventually turned up on the day. Also we had a few failed on the way and were unable to attend.

We had Cars ranging from Garry Rogers Bathurst A9X hatch to a very original HB that a club member is restoring after it has been in his paddock for many years working as a "Torana Ute".

Harry Firth (I refer to him as the godfather of our beloved Torana) had many a good yarn to tell as well as sign hundreds of autographs.

We managed to secure the services of a golf cart for the day to which we decorated it in HDT livery and fastened Harry's name in the appropriate place. He loved when we took him around to view all the cars. He has already said he wants to come back next year so we must be doing something right for the Fox to say that.

I have attached just a couple of photos for you guys to check out. One is of the timeline of Torana's to celebrate 40 years of the marque, the other is taken from a nearby hill early in the morning and does not do the crowd numbers true justice. At early count we raised around 5K for Ronald McDonald house here in the Hunter. Once again, thanks for your support.
