Automotive Dictionary: Sliding Vane Oil Pump

Throughout this site we use many technical terms, and given the breadth of readership our site enjoys, sometimes we are remiss and incorrectly assume everyone knows what we are referring to. For those that do not, here are some explanations of the technical terms use.
Fade To White
The sliding-vane oil pump consisted of a four-vaned rotor, the vanes of which formed a seal against the walls of an ovalised chamber by being free to slide in and out of the rotor to take up the ovality. As with the rotor-type pump, the volume between the vanes varies as the rotor spins; oil is drawn in as the volume increases and is squeezed out as it decreases. This type tends to wear more quickly than the others.
