The sliding-vane oil pump consisted of a four-vaned rotor, the vanes of which formed a seal against the walls of an ovalised chamber by being free to slide in and out of the rotor to take up the ovality. As with the rotor-type pump, the volume between the vanes varies as the rotor spins; oil is drawn in as the volume increases and is squeezed out as it decreases. This type tends to wear more quickly than the others. |
