My first 1985 GTV6, owned and drove it for 7 years covering nearly 100000 klm. I thought I wanted something new, sold it and as it was loaded onto a flatbed destined for its new custodian I unexpectedly burst into tears, my new SW20 MR2 which I had for a year already was nice, but no substitute. This 1986 GTV6 already had the modifications I lusted after but couldn't quite commit to with my previous Alfetta, twin spark transaxle, 3.8 ratio, LSD, bilstine shocks, adjustable front end and a hot 200hp 3.0 V6, to my ears, it sounds like nothing else, it drives like nothing else and it finally has performance to respect, these awesome cars force you to drive them properly, they reward attention to detail. From a gear change to tipping it into a corner at speed. Having owned and driven some proper sports cars, this one has what it takes to get your heart racing even before you engage ignition. Collectively I have over 20 years of ownership, I still admire its Ital Design boutique looks, pinstripe Recaro seats with netted headrests which grow more desirable the further away from the 1980's we get. For me, and not having driven a front engined V12 Ferrari, this is the best GT sports car pre 2000, it might not brake or accelerate like an M3, but it feels so much more involved to drive, looks better, and did I already mention it sounds like nothing else. I'm going to shoot for less weight(1100kg) and a little more power(240hp) from this example, that will allow me to sort out E36 M3s.
