My grandfather was the original owner of this beautiful 1962 Buick Special Skylark 2-door pillarless hardtop coupe. He bought it new from Reynolds Buick with the new standard aluminum block 215 cid, aluminum heads but chose the optional 4 barrel carb, and 4 speed manual transmission. He liked the power and light weight of the compact chassis and aluminum engine so much that he dubbed the car, "The Black Frog" because when you rev up the engine and pop the clutch, it could easily separate the front suspension and lift the front tires off the ground. He gave it to my Dad after we restored it some and my Dad sent the engine to a machine shop to have it bored out, blueprinted, balanced, fitted with new steel sleeves and new oversized pistons. After he took ownership, he drove it 5 days a week back and forth to work for about 5,000 miles and parked it in the driveway in 1984 because it was hard to find parts for old cars before the internet. I have now taken ownership, had it put on a flatbed and taken it to my back driveway of my no outlet alley by my garage. My vision is to restore it myself and take my Dad it for a spin (leap like a frog) and take my wife for a cruise from one end of Route 66 (Santa Monica) to the other end (Chicago).
