    Description:

The 2008 Matso's Classic Car Run will commence in Kununurra on Sat 17th May & conclude in Broome on Sunday 25th May.

Click here to read a wonderful story on the Previous Matso's Classic Car Run, as told by Les Faulds.

Starting with the fabulous Kimberley Moon Concert on the banks of the Ord River , we will again travel through the Kimberley to experience some new & exciting places, good food, great company and drive some wonderful classic cars.

Once again we will raise money for the Notre Dame School of Nursing in Broome. Please confirm if you are interested in joining us in 2008 as again numbers will be limited and we would hate you to miss out.

    HISTORY OF THE EVENT

The event has been designed and coordinated by two people – Greg Ross ( Perth ) and Martin Peirson-Jones (Broome), owner of Moonlight Bay Suites, Matso’s Broome Brewery in Broome, the Kimberley Hotel in Halls Creek and the Hotel Kununurra in Kununurra.

All bookings and monies, (excluding airfares), but including car transport with Nexus, are to be paid to Moonlight Bay Suites in Broome, on: 1800 818 878

It’s primarily designed to promote the Kimberley region as a tourist destination and support the 2008 Ord Valley Muster, of which the Slingair Heliwork Kimberley Moon concert is a major event. The run commences in Kununurra and finishes in Broome.

There is a fund raising component to the run, with the Royal Flying Doctor Service as the nominated recipient in 2005 and the Broome Aged Care Facility in 2006, we have nominated the Notre Dame School of Nursing charity for the 2007/08 events. Martin will donate a percentage of profits to the nominated charity each year, visitors will be asked to donate a gold coin (or more!) to view the cars on display in Broome and Kununurra.

It must stressed that entrants are not going to be ambushed for money – this is a tour and regional promotional exercise, however the suggestion will be that if they’d like to (there is absolutely no pressure to do so), they can organise a sponsor for their car, with a cheque made out directly to the charity.

The major sponsor is Matso’s Broome Brewery, with Nexus Freight, Kimberley Accommodation and Johnnie Walker on board as very valuable co-sponsors. Negotiations are underway with an airline, for assistance with the media flights and of course they would naturally be a co-sponsor.

Peter Howe from Nexus Freight, also a sponsor of the Ord Valley Muster is offering reduced car transport rates for entrants needing transport from Perth to Kununurra and Broome back to Perth .

There is a strong Kimberley contingent expected, with several cars from Broome and Kununurra, including MGs, Mercs, Mustangs and even a Bentley. Please note that it is not a "Bash" type event, rather an elegant, fun, 1,100km drive with good friends, classic cars and lots of Matso's Broome Brewery beer.

The run from Kununurra to Broome is a long one – 1100kms, but we feel a true Kimberley run – "Just down the bloody road!" And will provide a great opportunity for people to swap cars and tall stories. We are looking at the possibility of calling into Geike Gorge, but time may make that option impossible – it’s dangerous on the road after dark and some older cars were never supplied with headlights – just what at best, could be called bright indicators!
