Based on such classic rallies as the legendary Mille Miglia in Italy and the Silvretta Classic in Austria, Cairns hosted Australia’s first regularity classic rally in June 2012.
These races are not about speed and taking risks; Australia Classic follows the tradition of gentlemen’s racing similarly to the abovenamed European examples.
The Australia Classic series is held on public roads alongside regular traffic, keeping all road rules. Owners of expensive and beautiful classic vehicles will not have to risk their prized possessions, instead the objective is to be on time to the 100th of the second.
For the “classic class” any registered vehicle made prior to 1984 is eligible to enter. This year however the “open class” will also allow the entry of replicas, hot-rods and supercars on individual approval.
